My 2025 Reading Goals

Updated: Feb 15

2025 Reading Goals from UUMission.blog

I was planning on posting a Book Recommendation list today, but that did not happen so I will be posting that as soon as possible. I want to get into a rhythm of posting every Wednesday, but it might take a while since my university's spring semester starts soon. I figured that a Reading Goals post would be pretty straightforward to write. I have been making reading goals for a couple of years now, but this year I want to do things a bit differently. Instead of worrying about how many books I read in a year, I would like to focus on the quality of my reading. By that I mean, that I want to read books to read them, instead of reading books to finish them. I have often found myself reading through books as quickly as possible, so I can say I have read a certain number of books. I do not want to continue that this year. This year, I want to read the books that I am intimidated by but also read the books I am most excited about. In essence, I want to lean into the mood reader part of myself and not feel bad if it takes a bit for me to read a book because I wasn't in the mood for it. I know that it may sound a bit confusing, but hopefully, it makes a little bit of sense. Without further adieu, these are my 2025 Read Goals.

  • Get my Reading Hierarchy down to five books

I have a note on my phone detailing my desired hierarchy of books I read based on my Goodreads shelves. The goal is to empty those shelves of books by reading the books on those shelves. I have been working on some of the books for over a year and didn't feel like seeing them on my Currently Reading shelf anymore so I moved them to shelves labeled will-get-back-to-soon or slowly reading. I apologize if that sounds confusing, it confuses me sometimes. Anyway, according to that note, I have started over thirty books, so I would like to focus on getting that number down this year.

  • Read 45 Books

I know this sounds contrary to what I said earlier, but I set this goal just for the sake of having one on Goodreads.

  • Read most assigned books/reading

I am really bad about not making the most out of the classes I take. So I would like to focus on reading most of what is assigned to me. Especially the books that I spent money on.

  • Read the Whole Bible

I have been trying to do this for a couple of years. I read about half of the Bible last year, but I would like to read it completely this year. Throughout the last couple of years I have so far read the whole New Testament, and about half of the Old Testament. But I haven't finished reading all of the Old Testament yet. So, I would like to do that this year.

  • Reread Ten Books

I don't like spending so much money on books that I only read once. So last year I started rereading books I have enjoyed in the past, and I would like to continue that this year. Some books (like the Wingfeather Saga) seem to get better every time you read them. I am interested to see which books I enjoy more when I reread them.

  • Read 10 Non-fiction Books

I don't think this will be a hard goal to reach, since I am currently attending a university.

  • Read 10 Memoirs

I was really interested in Memoirs and Biographies in 2023 and early 2024, but that interest kind of took a back seat when I discovered how much I enjoy fantasy. I would like to continue my fascination with Christian history by reading books like Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxes and Her Story by Joni Eareckson Tada.

  • Get Currently Reading Shelf Down to Three Books

It would be an incredible accomplishment if I complete this goal. Currently that shelf on Goodreads has nine books, which I consider an accomplishment in itself because I had nearly twenty on that shelf a few months ago.

  • Get Physical TBR Down to 70 Books

I had this same goal for 2024 and failed it miserably. I don't think I will actually reach this goal, seeing as I have just over a hundred books on my Physical TBR. But I dare to dream big so I set this goal anyway.

I hope you enjoyed this post, hopefully, it gave you a bit of insight into my reading life and encouraged you on your own reading

life. Thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.
