I don't know what winter is like where you live, but right now my family is snowed in at home. So you might be wondering, why is she writing about gardening in the dead of winter? Well, I wanted to share what I have been working on over the past few weeks.
I am slowly working on building a dry stack wall around my garden. So far, I have pulled back the barbed wire on one side but I am waiting until the ground unfreezes before I pull up the fence posts. Sadly, I might not be able to lay the foundation rocks until this summer because Spring is very wet here and I don't want the stones to sink and move around too much.
My mom has made me two gigantic raised beds and plans to make another one for me. I have filled one of them, but I am waiting to get dirt to put in the other one. Let me tell you, filling up a 5x5 bed that is at least two feet deep is no small task. I plan on using those three beds to grow teas, cut flowers, and a butterfly & hummingbird garden. I will write more about that when I get closer to planting time.
Other than that I have for the most part finished cleaning off the area (except for some thorn bushes) and started making the path. There is still much that I need to do before planting time, but it is a start. I will share more about my garden layout and plan in a few weeks, but for now, this is what I've got.
Thank you for reading, I hope you are enjoying reading my gardening updates as much as I enjoy writing them.
